Quarter Sessions. Hobart Town, Thursday, September 24, 1835. Thomas Buff, charged with stealing money to the amount of £10 13s. from the person of Mr. Hugh Cameron, at Mr. Ferguson's public house at Oyster Bay. This case was stopped in its progress by the Court, and the Jury perfectly coincided in discharging the prisoner. The Court expressed its abhorrence of the conduct of the witnesses, one of whom, Mr Kerr, of Swan Port, was broadly charged, by Mr. Gellibrand, with having himself robbed the prosecutor. The conduct of Mr. Ferguson, the Innkeeper at Waterloo Point, at whose house the affair was alleged to have taken place, was also severely commented on, and pronounced by the Court to be such as to render him an improper person to hold a license. The prosecutor and witnesses were all refused any allowance for their expences. The Tasmanian, 2 Oct 1835.
