Robert disembarked in Port Jackson on 9 Jul 1837. Robert was promptly assigned to an employer. The Convict Muster later that year records that Robert, aged 20 years, had been assigned to Thomas Icely in the Bathurst district. Icely was one of the founding settlers around Carcoar. Robert obtained his Ticket of Leave on 13 Dec 1845 while in Carcoar (and presumably employed by Icely) He was granted a Conditional Pardon 10 Aug 1850. Robert married Caroline Thompson in Carcoar Church of England in 1847. Robert and Caroline had eleven known children registered in the Carcoar district between 1848 and 1870. He was appointed Keeper of the Public Pound in Carcoar in June 1857. He continued in this role for about two years until about June 1859. In 1863 Robert acquired a 44 acre parcel of land in Lucan Parish west of the main road about five kilometres south of Lyndhurst. He acquired eleven portions totalling around 640 acres. It is conjectured that it is here that he saw out his days. Robert, aged 83 years, died at his home near Garland on 25 Aug 1898.
