Convict Notes


1850, 4 January: Patrick Burns/Byrne per Neptune, aged 38, died at the Parramatta Invalid Establishment (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Death Register, 1826-1879).


On arrival in NSW, Patrick Byrne was 26, single, Catholic and could not read or write. He had no previous convictions (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842 Non-Annotated Printed Indentures 1838).

1837, 14 August: Patrick BYRNE was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, from Wicklow (prisoner #664). He had been tried on 3 July 1837, convicted and sentenced to life for cow stealing. He was described as 25, 5’6” tall with brown eyes, sandy hair and a dark complexion. 1837, 19 August: Discharged to be “embarked on the convict ship Neptune” (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1815-1910).
