After much research it would appear that D Wong is correct these are the same Dudley Sometime after getting his ticket of leave with passport Dudley either travelled back to Ireland or went to America. He married Catherine O’Keefe on the 15 Feb 1855 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. They then travelled back to Ireland where 4 of their children were born before coming back to Australia in 1862 with his family plus his brother Patrick and his sister Catherine. They all went on to Inverell where they stayed.

Tuam Herald Galway, Republic of Ireland 7 Apr 1838: Danial Cannon, Patt Cannon, and Dudley Cannon, stood indicted for the murder of Michael Raftery...... After a long charge from the Judge, and the recapitulation of evidence, the three prisoners were found guilty of manslaughter ; when his Lordship pronounced the following sentence:- Dudley Cannon to be transported for 7 years ; Daniel Cannon to be confined for 18 months, and kept to hard labour ; and Patt Cannon to be confined for 12 months and kept to hard labour also. Dudley Cannon was listed as 24 years old on arrival - he was 5'6" tall, light grey eyes, brown hair, ruddy freckled fair complexion, small mole under left jaw, broad scar over right elbow. Dudley could read, was RC, single, native place: County Galway. Having had a second look at Dudley Cannon I cannot find any references to him after his COF in 1847 - - The Dudley Cannon who arrived per 'City of Melbourne' 1862, departed Liverpool, Eng., then to Otago, NZ., then to Melbourne and on to Sydney - he was listed as 40 years old, Catherine as 30, John 5, Margaret 3, and Esther 1. If anyone has any further info, please add to the page.

The Dudley Cannon referred to by D Wong on 6th Aug 2013 can't be right. The Dudley Cannon mentioned came to Australia in 1862 with his wife and family as fare paying passengers on the ship "City Of Melbourne. I think there is some confusion with this one. Can anyone help with more details on this?
