Arthur Carmody was transported on the Archduke Charles, departing 15th May 1812 and arriving 16th Feb 1813 with 202 passengers.
Built in Shields 1809. Two decked, sheathed in copper. Owner - H. Moore. Shipwrecked in June 1816 on a voyage from Quebec to Halifax, near Green Island.

Convict Notes


Arthur Carmody was convicted at Galway Assizes in March 1811 for the crime of horse stealing. He was sentenced to death. He was old for the times, aged 60 years. He was respited by the middle of April until further orders, and eventually respited with transportation for life. He died anyway, one of two men on the voyage to NSW. His name was incorrectly reported in the Sydney Gazette on the ship's arrival in February 1813 as "Arthur Culmuddy".




Arthur Carmody died on the voyage. He was 67 years old and died of old age. No crime listed.
