Medina 1823. Surgeon’s Journal states: 27 August 1823; Received on board 180 male prisoners. 2: 5 September 1823; Got under way from the Cove of Cork and made all sail for ultimate destination. Two days before our departure 3 of the convicts were taken away in consequence of orders, and it was intended to have replaced them by others, but our short stay would not admit of it. The remaining convicts were 177. One convict died at sea. SHIP NEWS.—On Monday evening last arrived from the Cove of Cork, which she left on the 5th of September, with 176 male convicts, the ship Medina, Captain Brown. The guard comprises a detachment of the 40th, under orders of Lieutenant Gunning. Assistant Surgeon Coleman, 40th Regiment, comes by this opportunity The Surgeon Superintendent is Dr. Rodmell, R N. who was here before in the Mary transport. Sydney Gazette, 1 Jan 1824.

Drogheda Journal, or Meath & Louth Advertiser Louth, Republic of Ireland 9 Jul 1823 SPECIAL SESSIONS AT RATHKEALE Patrick Nash, Thomas Nash, John Kilroy, Michael Hartnev, John Fitzgerald, and Thomas Carmody, for being absent from their dwellings. It appeared in evidence, that they were concerned in attacking John King’s house, at Ballyalline, on the 17th of May, and cruelly flogging the inmates and destroying their furniture. The foregoing were sentenced to seven years transportation, and were instantly despatched on their route to Cork, attended by the bitter lamentations of their friends. Patrick and Thomas Nash arrived per 'Castle Forbes' 1823. Thomas Carmody, Michael Hartney and John Fitzgerald and John Kilroy were on board the Medina 1823. _______________________________ Thomas Carmody was listed as 22 and also 24 years old on arrival. (Ancestry Convict Indents). Thomas was 5'5" tall, fair ruddy complexion, grey eyes, brown hair. Colonial Secretary Index: CARMODY, Thomas. Per "Medina", 1823 1824 Jan 6: On list of convicts landed from the "Medina" and forwarded to Windsor for distribution (Reel 6012; 4/3510 p.133) 1825 Oct 18: Convict servant of Sophia Warner. To be victualled from the Store at Windsor for six months; listed as William (Reel 6015; 4/3515 p.524) 18/8/1828: TOL, Hawkesbury.
