Sarah Carroll was transported on the Surrey Or Surry, departing 28th Mar 1840 and arriving 13th Jul 1840 with 214 passengers.

Built at Harwich in 1811 a square-rigged transport ship of 443 tons and copper lined she had two decks with a height between decks of 5 ft. 8 ins. In 1818, she had a major refit increasing the decks (and convict carrying capacity) to three. She was owned by the London firm of F. & C.F. Mangles.

Sarah had 4 children with John Hopkinson. She was sometimes known as Mary.

Sarah Carroll was 18 yers old when indicted for stealing wearing apparel and a coral necklace the goods of Thomas M'Lewee. Sarah had been in the Lambeth Workhouse until employed Mr M'Lewee. Sarah was 4'11" tall, could read and write, ruddy and a little freckled complexion, sandy brown hair, grey eyes, small round scar on left cheek, J. RI heart, JS reversed inside lower left arm, scar on back of left thumb. 14/11/1840: Application to marry by Joseph Finch, aged 25 per Mary Ann. 18/9/1841: Application by Henry Copas, 38, made at Scone. Sarah married Henry and they had 4 children. Around 1850-52 Henry and their daughter, Mary Ann, disappeared (Henry died so presumably the daughter died too). Sarah then married John Hopkinson at Hillgrove, NSW. They had 2 children. Sarah died 1889 at Hillgrove aged 72. John Hopkinson died 1911 at Hillgrove aged 95.

My Great Great Grandmother, married henry Copas 1841 at Scone Courthouse, NSW, had 4 children, henry disappeared around 1850-52, she then married, John Hopkinson and had a fmily with him, her blended family remained around the Armidale, hillgrove area of NSW in the employ of grazier, and MP, Richard Hargrave. Sarah died 29/9/1889.
