Peter Check was transported on the Hercules, departing 24th Dec 1824 and arriving 7th May 1825 with 135 passengers.
The "Hercules" ship was built in 1801 at South Sheilds, England. 1801 voyage from Ireland to New South Wales, Australia. Sailed via Rio de Janeiro and the Cape. A mutiny occurred just prior to their arrival at Rio - after 45 minutes it was quashed but 13 convicts had been killed. Jeremiah Pendergass was named as the ring leader and shot. 44 deaths in total on this voyage. There was then another ship, also named, "Hercules" built 1822 at Whitby, England who made 3 trips to Austraia, in 1825, 1830 & 1832.

n 1834 at Newcastle, Peter married Henrietta Hannagan (Convict, 1832, “Diana”). Permission Granted 1833 at Newcastle: Check, Peter, 28, Hercules 2, 7 years, free. Henrietta Hannigan, 17, Diane, 7 years, bond. Henrietta and Peter had a large family (9). His family is listed on his death certificate: Died 18 May 1883 at Ellalong, Wollombi Peter Chick a farmer age 83 Cause of death: Natural decay 14 days Informant: Augustus Chick, son of deceased, Congewai, Wollombi Buried 20 May 1883 at Church of England cemetery, Ellalong Born England, 57 years in NSW Married at Maitland, age at marriiage unknown, to Henrietta surname unknown Children of marriage: Louisa (decd), Jane, Eliza, Ellinor, Alfred, Henrietta, Augustus, Clara, Walter




Morning Post Mon 9 Aug 1824 p.2 WINCHESTER, AUGUST 3. The Assizes concluded about one o'clock this day, and soon after the Judges left the City for Salisbury... Seven were sentenced to seven years transportation, viz....Wm. Dunkenson and Peter Check, for stealing a desk, and 252 penny pieces, from Wooton-bridge Mill, in the Isle of Wight... Salisbury and Winchester Journal Mon 23 Aug 1824 p.4 Wm. Dunkinson, Peter Check, John Cull, Henry Peers, and Henry Henvest, who were sentenced to seven years transportation at our last assizes, were removed on Tuesday last to the York Hulk convict ship at Gosport.
