James Clare was listed as 22 years old on arrival. Place of Birth: Throstock near Bath. James was married, his wife and 2 children on the Parish at Throtstock near Bath. Father a miner at Littleton. 18/8/1866: James Clare died in Adelaide, SA., aged 64. 20/8/1866 The Adelaide Express: CLARE.—On the 18th August, at his residence, South-terrace, of bronchitis, Mr. James Clare, an old colonist of twenty-one years, much and deservedly respected.

In the Somerset Court records it states that James Calre was 5ft 6ins tall, of a dark complexion with dark hair. He was a coal miner in Radstock He was convicted of theft of a silver watch and chain and 6 silver spoons from a merchant

James Clare was convicted of the theft of a silver watch and several silver spoons. He had fathered an iligitimate son, James Jones - the boy's mother was Mary Jones whom James married two months after the child's birth in 1821.
