John COLLING was convicted at Durham 8 April 1839 for sheep stealing. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to New South Wales, Australia per the 'Mangles'. Farm labourer; aged 38yrs; 5'5"; Protestant; can read; ruddy complexion; black hair; blue eyes. Native place - Yorkshire, England. Married, 2 children. Stationed at Norfolk Island (off the east coast of NSW) 1840. Transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Duke of Richmond' 12 March 1844. 24 May 1845: Ticket of Leave granted. 6 Jan 1846: Died, suddenly at Oatlands, Tasmania. (ref. Conduct record book)
