Julia Collins was transported on the Margaret, departing 5th Feb 1843 and arriving 19th Jul 1843 with 158 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

Old Bailey: JULIA COLLINS, Theft > burglary, 24th October 1842. JULIA COLLINS was indicted for stealing, on the 11th of October, at St. George-the-Martyr, Southwark, 5 gowns, value 71.; 1 boa, value 10s.; 1 scarf, value 10s.; 1 shawl, value 15s.; 1 bonnet, value 10s.; 1 pair of boots, value 4s.; 1 tea-caddy, value 5s.; 1 cap, value 2s,; and 5 yards of calico, value 4s.; the goods of James Mason, her master, in his dwelling-house; and afterwards about the hour of two in the night, feloniously and burglarously breaking out of the said dwelling-house: to which she pleaded GUILTY. Aged 23.— Transported for Ten Years. Julia Collins was listed as 24 years old on arrival, she was 4'11½" tall, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar above left eye, lost part of tooth upper jaw, native place: County Kerry, single, reads. Occupations: Servant of all work/housemaid/nursemaid. 30/6/1846: Permission to marry James Wenn (Mangles) - had TOL. 2/9/1846: They married at St Josephs Church, Hobart - Children: WENN SARAH 1847 WENN JOHN 1847 WENN JULIA 1849 WENN JAMES 1851 WENN ELIZA 1852 WENN MARY 1854 WENN F 1855 WENN M 1858 WENN JOSEPH 1859 WENN F 1861 WENN F 1863 25/9/1849: TOL 28/5/1850: Recommended for a CP 12/8/1851: CP approved. 15/4/1884: Julia Wenn died at Launceston, aged 66, - of 'Senility' - a carter's wife. 13/7/1886: James Wenn died aged 71. of Dropsey - listed as a carter, and died Frankland Street, Launceston.

Born in Kerry Ireland before moving to Britain. Arrived Van Diemans land 19 July 1843 and imprisoned in Cascades Womens Prison. Pardoned on 12 Aug 1850
