Convict Notes

1838 - SISTER; Bridget Byrne arrived in the Colony per Ship; Diamond - 1838. Refer Indent No; 18.

1851, 10 December: William CUDDY or BYRNE, 37, of Co Wicklow was granted a Conditional Pardon (No 51/453). Under the terms of such a pardon, he was not allowed "to go to or be in any part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland". Violation of this stipulation would void his pardon (see NSW Convict Registers of Conditional and Absolute Pardons, 1788-1870).

William Cuddy/Byrne was 23 on arrival in NSW. He was Roman Catholic, could read and write, and was single. He had no former convictions (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Non-Annotated Printed Indentures 1838).

1837, 14 August: William CUDDY or BYRNE was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, from Wicklow (prisoner #663). He had been tried on 3 July 1837, convicted and sentenced to life for sheep stealing. He was described as 23, 5’4½” tall with blue eyes, light brown hair and a dark complexion. 1837, 19 August: Discharged to be “embarked on the convict ship Neptune” (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1815-1910).
