Edward Curran was transported on the Boyd, departing 10th Mar 1809 and arriving 14th Aug 1809 with 144 passengers.
395 ton ship. Departed Cork, Ireland for New South Wales, Australia 1809. After leaving Australia, for New Zealand, the vessel was set upon by natives from Bay of Islands and most onboard the ship were massacred (including cannibalization). The boat was captured and towed to Motu Wai (Red Island) were it was totally destroyed.

Edward Curran had a 7 yr sentence (per "Boyd" convict indent and muster rolls) was aged 30 on arrival in NSW with 7 yr sentence. (Per "Boyd" Muster Rolls 1809) Departed Cork in March 1809 and arrived NSW Aug 1809. Was probably assigned straight away to John Cummings. COl Sec Letters - Jan 1810 Cummings sought approval for him, his wife and three children to go to Hobart taking Edward Curran with him as his servant. Approved. Went to Hobart on the "Estramina" Mar 1811 muster - residence Hobart, convict, - Says Life. 1819 DIED at Hobart. 18 April 1819, buried 21st April. (from burial registers of St David's parish, Hobart) From Tasmanian convict records Trade: weaver Body marks: lost his left hand Personal: Grey eyes, brown hair. 5ft 7inches tall.
