Thomas Dadley was convicted at Northampton on 08/04/1841 for stealing - goods from a silk factory of Mr. Francis Taylor. Previous convictions for stealing a saw and for running away from his apprenticeship. 14 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the Isabella 2, departing 29/01/1842, arriving 21/05/1842. Gaol Report: bad Hulk Report: good Ship Surgeon's Report: good. Aged 21yrs; single; native place - Coventry; 5'4"; fair complexion; lt brown hair; grey eyes; silk weaver;can read & write; Protestant. (Note: The Indent record has "M" for married, but his Record sheet states "Single".) Father: Thomas - at native place. Thomas Dadley was the son of Thomas Dadley and his first wife Hannah(nee Corbett) of Coventry.He was baptised on 11th June at St Michaels Church Coventry.He was one of at least eight children born to Thomas and Hannah.But his father had another eight children by his second wife Sarah (nee Jolly).I have been collecting Dadleys for more than thirty years.This family had a most diverse history.Although born into relative poverty they produced a Church of England Minister and a certified Dentist.
