SATURDAY, MAY 14, 1831 Arrived on Monday the 9th. instant the convict ship America, Robert Donald, Esq. Commander, from London 6th. January, with, 186 females. Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. Mary Daniel was convicted at York on 22 Oct 1830 for stealing money from her employer. Previous conviction. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) on the ship 'America' arriving 1831. Single woman; aged 26yrs; housemaid. Native place - Bishopthorpe, Yorkshire. Assignments of service in Colony. 1834: Receiving Promissory Notes and a silver watch, knowing them to have been stolen. Committed for trial. Found Not Guilty. Ticket of Leave granted. Pardoned.
