July 11 1823. David Cosgrove, per Southworth, assigned to Celia Cosgrove, resident at Brickfields.
The Petition of Celia Cosgrave a free woman. Most humbly Showeth That your Honour, Petitioner came to this colony a free woman, as being sent by His Excellency the late Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, after her husband David Cosgrave, now a watchman aat the Carters Barracks, through yur Honor’s Petitioner having given information against a man of the name of Edm. Loghan, who perpetrated the horrid crime of Murder, on the person of Edward Brown, Esq., of Castle Mile in the county of Galway, in mistake of a protestant Clergy man of the name of the Revd. Doctor John 0’Rork. Your Honor’s Petitioner having brought the aforesaid Edm. Loghan to condign punishment for which he suffered death, the wise judgement of Government deeming it more prudent to send your Petitioner and her child for safety, after her husband, who now presumes to approach your Honor with their petition, Humbly, hoping your Honor will be humanely pleased to admit your Honor’s Petitioner to share in your high consideration by deigning to appoint your Petitioner’s husband , to what ever situation your Honor’s wise judgement may deem meet, so as to be a protection to your Honor’s Petitioner and children from the noxious insinuations of some of the people who came with petitioner in the Woodman.
