The Francis & Eliza was built on the Thames in 1782 (345 tons). The Francis & Eliza and the Canada departed Cork in convoy on 5 December 1814.The Francis and Eliza was taken on 4th January by the American Warrior privateer. She was plundered before being given up and allowed to continue on the journey. Captain Harrison was removed on board the privateer, and detained many hours but was afterwards liberated and restored to his own ship. Captain Harrison later reported that while the ship lay at Sierra Leone, in the month of March, a terrible fever raged at that settlement, occasioning a mortality most dreadful. The Francis & Eliza and Canada sailed from Sierra Leone together for the Cape of Good Hope, where they arrived the 12th May and remained three weeks to refresh. Fifty-two male prisoners and sixty-five female prisoners arrived in Port Jackson on the Francis and Eliza on 8 August 1815. (Ref. Sydney Gazette 12/08/1815)

Richard Denney was indicted for stealing a piece of paper, value two pence, the property of George Bunn, Esq. George Bunn, Esq. deposed, that the prisoner was his hired servant on the 29th of August last, the day laid in the indictment ; as one of the Directors of the Bank of Australia, two packages of notes, containing 50 each, were forwarded to witness' house, on the 29th of August, for the purpose of obtaining his signature, they having been already signed by one Director; on the evening of the 28th or 29th, witness was from home, during which time the packages of notes were deposited on a table, in a room to which the prisoner had access; the following day the prisoner absconded from his service, in a state of intoxication, and shortly after witness had informations that the prisoner passed a note of the Bank of Australia to Mr. Polack of the London Tavern, which bore the signature of one Director only, in consequence of which he examined the parcels and found one note missing, the number of which was precisely the same us that which was produced by Mr. Polack as having been received from the prisoner; the note now produced, witness has no doubt is the same that was abstracted from the parcel; the paper and engraving stand the Bank in about 3½ each note. Mr. A. Polack, Proprietor of the London Tavern, stated that he received the note now produced from the prisoner, to whom he gave £1 3s. currency in exchange; witness remarked at the time that it bore the signature of one Director only, when the prisoner said that he did not know how that was, but that he had received it in part of payment of a check, drawn by his master, from Mr. McVitie, at the Bank. The Jury found the prisoner Guilty. Remanded. Sydney Gazette, 24 Oct 1828. -------------------------------------------------- SYDNEY QUARTER SESSIONS.---Saturday.
