height 4feet 7 3/4 inches, hair-brown, eyes -hazel, age 13, trade-cowherd, where tried- Glasgow Court of Justiciary, when tried- 3 May 1827, sentence-14 years, native place -Lanark, married or single-single, religion-P Relations Apprenticeship where residing -F&M np (native place)labourer "I was last at Thomas Smith Coble Hall" offences_ this offence stg (stealing) 10 sheep, tried with another man- he was not "lagged"- trained dog it is said to steal the sheep.

John Donald, sheep-stealing at Carstairs, guilty; to be transported 14 years. Note: other documentation shows sheep stealing, not cow stealing as the offence.




Meander Electoral Roll 1856 shows John Donald, abode Westbury, qualification for electoral roll- free hold estate Westbury house and land.




John Donald was 13 years old when transported for stealing 10 cows. He was a herdsman. John was single, hazel eyes, brown hair, 4'7 3/4" tall, J & D inside right arm, scar on back of little finger left hand. Father, a labourer and Mother at his native place of Lanark. 21/10/1829 Gray/ Absconded from his master - 12 lashes. 1829-1833 Muster: Absconded. 1835: TOL 17/3/1840 CP 12/12/1836:TL/Not being in his authorized place of residence. 1837: Married Mary Ann Bury (Free). They had 8-9 Children between 1838-1864. 24/6/1869: John died at Westbury. 7/4/1887: Mary Ann died. She and John are buried together.




Married Mary Ann Bury in Westbury Tasmania...buried in Westbury Anglican Cemetery in 1869. His wife Mary Ann died in 1887 and is buried with him
