The Windham and General Hewett left England the 24th of August, in convoy with the Wansted, Capt. Moore, who sailed from hence last Thursday for Batavia; the General Hewett arrived at Rio the 17th of November, and sailed again the 2d of December. Together with the military detachments, she received on board for this Settlement 300 male prisoners, of whom we are sorry to report the death of 35, whose names we shall endeavour to procure an account of, and publish in the next Gazette, for the information of their friends and families in Great Britain. DRAKE Family connections for Daniel (Drake) are: Daniel (Drake) son of George (Drake) & Mary (???) was born about 1784 & christened on 29 2 1784 at Sawbridgeworth Hertfordshire. He married Sarah (Cracknell) on 11 3 1804 at Enfield Middlesex or Hertfordshire. He was tried w/1other for stealing a sheep of W (Norris) at Hertford Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 2 1814 after a voyage 6months on GENERAL HEWITT; he was Protestant. About 1816 he was granted land at Liverpool. He is recorded in 1828 with Ticket of Leave as farmer at Lower Minto near Liverpool. He died in 1869 age85 at Limestone Flats & was buried (as David) at Bathurst. [Some details taken from this Website] Sarah (Cracknell) was born about 1787. She arrived in NSW with her children following her husband on 18 6 1815 after a voyage of 6months on NORTHAMPTON. She is recorded in 1828 with her family at Lower Minto near Liverpool. 15/3/1813 Hampshire Chronicle Hampshire, England: ASSIZE INTELLIGENCE James Blackaby and Daniel Drake, for stealing one ewe sheep, the property of VV. Norris. James Blackaby died on the voyage. Daniel Drake was christened obn 29/2/1784 at Sawbridgeworth, Hertford. Father: George Drake Mother: Mary. 11/3/1804: Married Sarah Cracknell at Enfield, Middlesex, Eng. 18/6/1815: Wife Sarah and children Mary 10 and Elizabeth 8 arriver per 'Northampton' - Samuel 5 and Sarah 3 died on the voyage out.
