In 1837 James married Ann Ham nee Epton.  Ann arrived per William Pitt in 1805 and married George Ham (per Royal Admiral 1800) in 1806. Ann was born C1783 so she would have been 54ish when they married. Ann died in 1864 at Partrick Plains, aged 81.

James then married his step-daughter Frances Carter nee Ham (1816-1900) in 1841.  Frances previously had been married to Joseph Carter (Age 30 per Ocean TOL) but he died in 1841.  She was 14 years old when she married Joseph.

James had no children of his own either with Ann or Frances.
