Passengers, Mrs. Montgomery and two children. 168 Mustered, 8 Died on voyage; Total 176 Embarked. 1831 Voyage - Source; The Hobart Town Courier. SATURDAY, MAY 14, 1831 Arrived on Monday the 9th. instant the convict ship America, Robert Donald, Esq. Commander, from London 6th. January, with, 186 females. Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. Trail 12 Sep 1830 at the Old Bailey for stealing 4 books. Prison report: At Newgate before recommend to be sent out of the country, rather idle. Desc: aged 13 from Oxford buildings London, 4'20.5" tall, illiterate, RC, pale complexion, dark grey eyes, dark brown hair, thick lips, moles on left arm below elbow, tattoos 'LTJ' & 'HP' on right arm, feint 'M' on right arm also, single 1832 Muster - assigned to Mr Carmichael 1833 Muster - assigned to Mr Griffith Absconded 23 Feb 1835 - th service of Mr John Sprunt, Launceston - apprehended 5 Mar 1835 1835 Muster - House of Correction There are further records of absconding in 1837; 1841 - holding a TOL didn't attend 1841 annual Muster in Sep & being absent from their authorised place of residence & now illegally at large; 1846 Permission to marry 25 May 1837, approved- Ephraim Digby (free). Did not proceed. Permission to marry 1 Mar 1839 & again 10 Mar 1840 - John Mannering (Mainwaring on marriage certificate / registration) per Aurora. They married 27 Apr 1840 in Launceston. They had 11 children together born between 1840-1865 Certificate of Freedom 9 Dec 1844 Died 1 Oct 1870 at Deloraine of stomach cancer
