This webpage explains about Houses of Correction. https://www.londonlives.org/static/HousesOfCorrection.jsp There wS more than one possible House of Correction. This is about Cold Bath Fields ( the Middlesex House of Correction) as a large part of what is now North and West London was administratively the county of Middlesex. https://www.londonlives.org/static/Prisons.jsp#Coldbath

The sentence of transportation for life reflects not just the case (of stealing small valuable items from the person she was lodging with). The evidence includes the information that Harriet had a previous conviction from April 1829 when she had spent 2 months in the House of Correction. That case wasn't reported in the Proceedings of the Old Bailey. It could have been a magistrates' court case rather than a jury trial. At this time however past contact with the criminal law could weigh very heavily against the accused when Old Bailey judges passed sentence.
