Dan Griffin, Margaret Field, Pat. Sullivan, Mary Field, Bridget Harry, Jeremiah Nealy, ?. Danoran, Cornelius Sullivan, and ? Faith, were severally charged with stealing ?£ 17s. the property of Jer. Mahony, on 21 Dec. Jeremiah Mahony deposed, he was a fisherman, and having sold some fish to two market women, went to the house where he was informed they lived, to receive the money ; and on going up stairs, a number of persons rushed upon him, and having thrown him down, proceeded to rifle his pockets, from whence they took all the money, that he had, amounting to to finish the business  after having robbed the witness, they all lent a hand in rolling him down stairs, a little lighter than when he went up; from the bruises that received by this last treatment, he was confined to his bed for several days—here the witness on turning the bar, was only able to identify Dan Griffin, Patrick Sullivan, Margaret Field, and Mary Field, and could not undertake to swear positively the rest. Two witnesses were produced for the defence, who each deposed, that they saw the prosecutor in a state of intoxication the day stated that he was robbed—one them however was proved by respectable witless, to a fellow of the sworn characters, and not fit to be credited on his oath—The Jury returned verdict of Guilty, against Griffin, Sullivan, and the two Fields but acquitted the rest —His Lordship sentenced the prisoners to 7 years transportation. Cork Constitution, 12 April 1827.
