Dora GARDINER was convicted at Fermanagh, Ireland on 22 Oct 1847 for Larceny - stealing a gown. Previous conviction. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ‘Kinnear’ arriving 7 Oct 1848. Ship Surgeon’s Report: “good”.

Country servant; aged 37yrs; widow, 1 child, on board with her; 5’2”; Protestant.
Native Place - Co. Fermanagh, Ireland.
Brother - Thomas) in America
Sister - Maria )

6mth Probation period in Colony. ‘Anson’ hulk station.
Clear conduct record.

6 May 1851: Ticket of Leave granted.

17 June 1851: Application for permission to marry - to James McGleanon. Did not proceed.

23 Sept 1851: Application for permission to marry: - to Nicholas Cousins. Approved.

13 Oct 1851: Marriage - to Nicholas Cousins, aged 31 years, a gardener,  at St. George’s Church, Hobart. Dora, aged 37yrs, widow. (Ref. 37/1/10 no. 316 & noted on Conduct Record.)

Admitted to Queens Orphanage (as was required by the Govt), 11 Oct 1848, aged 3yrs.  Discharged to her mother’s care who was now on a Ticket of Leave and permitted to have her child returned - 7 Oct. 1851. Father is listed as Abraham GARDINER. Mother - Dorah GARDINER (Kinnear).
