OCT. 23. - Arrived the barque Kinnear, Lidderdale master, from Dublin 10th July, with 180 male prisoners, Surgeon Superintendent - G. J. Fox, Esq. The guard consists of Captain Bull (with Mrs. Bull, 4 children, and 1 female servant), and 30 rank and file of the 99th Regt., - 4 women, and 6 children. Colonial Times (Hobart) 25 Oct 1842.

Surgeon’s Journal of Her Majesty’s Female Convict Ship Kinnear, Mr J. G. Williams, Surgeon Between the 2nd May and 14th October 1848. Adm. 101-040-06 Put on sick list, July 17. Mary Gardiner, age 4, Convict’s child, Dysenteria, Discharged 2nd Augt. Mary’s care is very detailed: This child has had for some days a bowel complaint, and has at the present time a muco-sanguineous discharge by the anus, with considerable griping and frequent inclination to go to stool, skin dry, & hot, tongue clean, pulse small and quick, disinclination for food. Rx Ol. Ricini ziij Aq. Menth. Pip. Zjj fiat Haust. statim sumendus Arrow root & sago ordered to be given 18th Castor oil brought away a quantity of slimy mucus, mixed with a little blood. Rx Mist. Cretæ Zvj Tinct. Catechu ziij - Opii zfs M ft Mist. Capiat cochl. 1 mag.ter in die had the same nutriment as yesterday 19th The muco-sanguineous discharge still continues, griping not so severe. Rep. Medicament ut heri 20th Passed a good night and is better this morning. Rep. Medicament ut antea 21st Continues to mend, dejections not so frequent, in this manner the child gradually recovered and was sent into her mess on the above date quite well.

Child: Mary GARDINER Accompanied her mother from Ireland. Admitted to Queens Orphanage (as was required by the Govt), 11 Oct 1848, aged 3yrs. Discharged to her mother's care who was now on a Ticket of Leave and permitted to have her child returned - 7 Oct. 1851. Father is listed as Abraham GARDINER. Mother - Dorah GARDINER (Kinnear).




Dora GARDINER was convicted at Fermanagh, Ireland on 22 Oct 1847 for Larceny - stealing a gown. Previous conviction. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Kinnear' arriving 7 Oct 1848. Ship Surgeon's Report: "good". Country servant; aged 37yrs; widow, 1 child, on board with her; 5'2"; Protestant. Native Place - Co. Fermanagh, Ireland. Brother - Thomas) in America Sister - Maria ) 6mth Probation period in Colony. 'Anson' hulk station. Clear conduct record. 6 May 1851: Ticket of Leave granted. 17 June 1851: Application for permission to marry - to James McGleanon. Did not proceed. 23 Sept 1851: Application for permission to marry: - to Nicholas Cousins. Approved. 13 Oct 1851: Marriage - to Nicholas Cousins, aged 31 years, a gardener, at St. George's Church, Hobart. Dora, aged 37yrs, widow.
