It is most likely that this is the elder brother or Robert Garrard who was transported to Sydney per "Admiral Gambier" in 1811. Further research is being undertaken to confirm this link

The following nine other prisoners were also capitally convicted, viz. … John Spink, John Garrod, Charles Nunn, and John Hayward, for a burglary in the house of Mr. Philip Steggle, of Wickham Skeith, and stealing thereout divers divers monies and goods. [George Hayward, an accomplice in the last case and first cousin to one of the prisoners, was admitted King’s evidence.] … Before the Judge left the town, they were all reprieved. Bury and Norwich Post, 31 March 1813.

It is believed John Garrard is the same person as John Garrett. John Garrett was transferred to Van Diemen's Land from New South Wales per the ship 'Brothers' 1815. It is noted against his name that he was originally transported to NSW per the 'General Hewitt' 1815. 1813 conviction at Suffolk. Life Sentence. VDL: Notations in Conduct Record from 1828 to 1834 for misconduct. 5 Aug 1834: Conditional Pardon approved. No. 588.
