Family connections for Peter (Gilligan/Gillighan/Gilligahan) are: Some amendments added Jul 2025. GILLIGAN Peter (Gilligan/Gillighan/Gilligahan) was born about 1793 & became a farm labourer. He married Mary (???) in Ireland. He was tried for stealing potatos at Kildare co. Ireland in 1817, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 1 4 1818 after a voyage of 4.5months on GUILDFORD; he was Catholic. He was assigned to Evan district where he gained a land grant at Seven Hills. He requested passage for his wife & child on 31 7 1824. He was Free by Servitude by 1827. He is recorded in 1828 as farmer with his family on 80acres at Evan. [Some details taken from this Website] Mary (???-perhaps Birmingham) was born about 1798. She was living at Castle Carberry Kildare co. Ireland after her husband was transported. She arrived in NSW with her child following her husband on 4 2 1827 after a voyage of 6months on BROTHERS. She is recorded in 1828 with her family at Evan. She died on 24 11 1830 age about32 at Nepean & was buried, as (Gilligan), at St Marys RC Sydney. Peter (Gilligan) & Mary (???) produced at least 3children: 1.Ellen (Gilligan) was born about 1817 in Kildare co. Ireland. She arrived in NSW with her mother on 4 2 1827 after a voyage of 6months on BROTHERS. She is recorded in 1828 with her parents at Evan. She married John (Delaney) <1844 & produced 6children. She died at Fish River. ..John (Delaney) was born on 19 10 1810 & baptised on 21 4 1811 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. He is recorded in 1828 at Evan with his parents; he was Catholic. NSW 1828 Census Index. Peter Gilligan, age 33, F.S. Guildford 1817, 7 years, catholic, Farmer in Evan district, Holds 80 acres, 50 of which are cleared and cultivated. Has 6 cattle. Mary Gilligan, age 30, came free per Brothers 1827, Ellen Gilligan, age 11, came free on Brothers 1827.

Irish Convict Database. Peter Gilligan, age 25, per Guildford (3) 1818, Tried at Kildare Co., 1817, 7 years sentence, Native of Kildare Co. labourer. Married, spouse in Ireland, unknown. -------------------------------------------------- The Brothers departed Cork on 3rd October 1826 with 161 female prisoners. Four families of convicts already in the colony came as free passengers- Mary Gilligahan + one child; Mary Gilligahan's husband Peter was a farmer's man who was transported for 7 years for stealing potatoes.
