Age given in the burial record above is incorrect - no age is given in the record. Assuming he was 42 when originally convicted, he would have been aged about 55 when he died.

James Gillam, aged 36, Convict, per William Miles, abode: Cleveland Party, buried 14 May 1840, in parish of Campbell Town. -------------------------------------------------- Tasmanian Conduct Record. 553. James Gillin, per William Miles, Tried at Hereford Ass. 18 Aug 1827, Life. Transported for House breaking. Gaol report- unknown. An old soldier, orderly. Hulk report, orderly, single, Stated this offence, Stealing 2 0???? I was not tried for Housebreaking. I was 2 months in for drunkenness, I was kept to hard labour and returned to my Master. I was 10 years and 6 months in the 6th Dragoon Guards on lancers?. I was discharged. I was coachman to Capt. Johnson of the same Regt. Many entries on list on conduct record, including a conviction at Q.S. 20 April 1835, when he was imprisoned with hard labour for 3 years.
