City Crown Court. Honora Reardan, Anne M'Coy, and Catherine Harris were indicted for stealing money the property of Thomas Fitzgerald. The prosecutor, simple well looking countryman had come to town after earning two guineas by working three months in barn, which he had resolved to send home to his sister to Clonmel, and to enlist himself, hut on applying at the Barrack he did not pass the Doctor, having a complaint in one of his legs. He had gone into a house near the Barracks to get a glass. He had opened the rag the money was in to pay for it, and the moment the prisoners saw it they surrounded him, caught him by the throat and took it. Reardon, the owner of the house, was the principal, she bit his lip. Her son afterwards offered him 30s.— Guilty—to be transported for 7 years. Southern Reporter, 8 Aug 1826.
