BOROUGH COURT. Shoplifting.— At the Borough Court, on Monday, a young woman named Margaret Heap was brought up on a charge of stealing a roll of ribbon, the property of Mr. Farnell, a linendraper in Westgate. The prisoner, who has been previously convicted, went into the shop of Mr. Farnell on Saturday morning, and asked to look at some ribbon. Several rolls of ribbon were shown to her, and she left the shop with- out making a purchase, but it was observed by Mrs. Farnell that she let a roll of ribbon fall at the door and picked it up. She followed her, and seized her with a roll of ribbon in her possession. The roll of ribbon was the property of Mr. Farnell. The prisoner was committed for trial at the sessions. Bradford Observer, 18 Jan 1849.
