Convict Notes

Family connections for Thomas (Hesketh) are: HESKETH/HEATHCOTT ??? (Hesketh) produced perhaps 2children: 1.Thomas (Hesketh/Heathcott) was born about 1800 in Liverpool Lancashire & became a house painter & glazier. He was tried at Lancaster Quarter Sessions on 3 8 1818, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1819 after a voyage of 6months on BARING; he was 5'4.5" fair pale complexion brown hair hazel eyes. He may have had a relationship with Jane (Christie). He was recorded in 1822 as assigned to Government painter Sydney. He died on 1 4 1823 age23 & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney. ..[Some details taken from this Website] ..Jane (Christie/y) was born about 1747. She was tried for stealing linen at Antrim co. Ireland in March 1790, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 8 1793 after a voyage of 6months on BODDINGTONS. She is recorded in 1825 as wife (her third? relationship) of Thomas (Hosketh) at Windsor. She died about 1827 age about80 mother of 1known child. ..[Some details taken from this Website; where more information (which is confusing) is given] .. 2.Robert (Hesketh/Holcroft) was born about 1782/95. He was tried for stealing leather at Latham (or Altham) Lancashire at Liverpool Lancaster Quarter Sessions in November 1819, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 7 8 1820 after a voyage of 4months on MANGLES. He was living in Sydney when he married (permission given 5 2 1821 while living at Windsor) Jane (Christie her second marriage) on 1 3 1821 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. ..[Some details taken from this Website; & Smees records identify this person as the husband of Jane (Christie)] [Noted Smees records identify Jane (Christie), defacto of Robert (Hesketh), as born about 1792 & arriving in NSW as a convict in 1821 on MORLEY.] [This Jane (Christie) does not have an entry on this Website as yet, nor does the ship MORLEY arrive in Australia in 1821.] ..However, a Jane (Hesketh) was a servant at Ruffold/Rufford Lancashire when tried w/1other for possessing/uttering a forged note at Chester Session of Pleas Cheshire in April 1820, sentenced to 14years, held in the county gaol & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 9 1820 after a voyage of 4.5months on MORLEY. ..[Some details taken from this Website] ..Robert (Hesketh) & Jane (Christie) produced 1child: ..1.George (Hesketh) was born on 24 6 1821 at Annandale & baptised on 29 7 1821 at St Phillips CofE Sydney. Noted a Jane (Christie) died on 1 7 1827 age about80 (Smees records show age87) as emancipist mother of maybe 2children & was buried, as (Hesketh) at St Matthews CofE Windsor. The confusion here arises from proper identification of Jane (Christie)s arrival & because Smees record for Jane (Christie)s death shows her as named Jane (Hesketh) wife of Robert & as arrived on BODDINGTONS 1793. Also difficulty in identification of RobertThomas (Hesketh) PERHAPS A RELATION Robert (Hesketh) was born about 1761/7. In 1837, as a distiller, he adverised loss of his Certificate of Freedom; describing himself as age70; 5'8.5: grey hair brown eyes.
