OCCUPATION: Labourer and shepherd. MARITAL STATUS: Widower James HETHERINGTON was 44 on arrival in NSW (listed as 45 on Kilmainham Gaol record). He was a Protestant, could read and write and came from County Carlow. He had no previous convictions (see NSW Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Non-Annotated Printed Indentures 1838). A notation on his records says his "first cousin William Edge convict arrived about 1830". Note: William EDGE, 33, a farmer from Wicklow who was married with 6 children, arrived in NSW per Mangles in 1828. He had been tried in 1827 at Wicklow and sentenced to 7 years for stealing a cow. EDGE died in 1831 in Sydney (see http://members.pcug.org.au/~ppmay/cgi-bin/irish/irish.cgi).
