ADM 101/24/31827-1828 Medical and surgical journal of the Elizabeth convict Ship, for 6 July 1827 to 26 January 1828 by Joseph H Hughes, Surgeon, during which time the said Elizabeth was employed in transporting female convicts from Ireland to Sydney, New South Wales. Folio 2: Mary Hogan, aged 7, child of Margaret Hogan; disease or hurt, fracture of the tibia and fibula of the left leg, from a convict falling on her while carrying her. Put on sick list, 28 August 1827, at sea. Discharged, 6 October 1827. Folio 17: Margaret Hogan, aged 28, Convict; disease or hurt, subject to epilepsy though never on the sick list, was seized with a spasmodic pain in her right side, excruciating and lasting for half an hour, stomach somewhat deranged. Put on sick list, 7 January 1827. Remains on the sick list, 10 January 1828. Refused all medicine but wished to be bled, dreading a violent epileptic seizure. She suffered a violent seizure after only three ounces had been withdrawn and lost three pounds of blood before the Surgeon could stop the bleeding. Folio 20: Margaret Hogan's child Thomas, child; sick or hurt, Cholera et Spasms; put on sick list, 24 December 1827; discharged in 1828.
