SATURDAY, MAY 14, 1831 Arrived on Monday the 9th. instant the convict ship America, Robert Donald, Esq. Commander, from London 6th. January, with, 186 females. Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. She complained of violent pain in the crown of the head; vomiting of bilious matter, and griping pain in thebowels – She was thirsty with a furred tongue. She took 4 grains of submuriate of mercury with 20 grains of cathartic extract. … Her symptoms and treatment are fully described. … March 6th The medicine has been continued, and she has gradually gained strength.
