Mary Jane CORNWALL had received her Ticket of Leave on 18 March 1843, and was granted a Certificate of Freedom on 14 July 1845 (see New South Wales, Australia, Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867).
1838: On arrival in NSW, John CORNWALL was 28. His native place was Co Armagh, and this record says his crime was having "stolen property in possession". Married with two male children, his wife Mary Jane Cornwall, a needlewoman, had been sentenced to 7 years' transportation for receiving stolen goods; she arrived per Diamond in NSW about three months later, on 29 March 1838 (see http://members.pcug.org.au/~ppmay/cgi-bin/irish/irish.cgi). 1844, 13 January: Granted a Ticket of Leave No.44/287 for the District of Melbourne (see New South Wales and Tasmania, Australia, Convict Pardons and Tickets of Leave, 1834-1859).
1837, 17 August: John CORNWELL was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, having been sentenced to 14 years, on 30 June 1837 by P Fogarty Esq, for twice receiving stolen goods. He was prisoner #681, 25 years old, 5’8” with dark eyes, red hair and a fair complexion. He was discharged to be sent on board the Neptune on 26 August 1837 (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1836-1910).
