On the record of “male transports” from Chatham per Nile to WA he was listed as 27, single, a labourer, and able to read only (Western Australia, Australia, Convict Records, 1846-1930; Convict Department, Registers; Convicts Transported Per Nile (R32)). --00--

25 June, 1856: He was received at Pentonville; listed as prisoner #6766, 27, single, Roman Catholic, labourer, and next of kin Bridget Mallaney of Great Bridge, near Walsall. His crime was described as "wounding 2 police officers in the execution of their duty". He served 10 months 12 days in separate confinement (UK, Prison Commission Records, 1770-1951; Pentonville Prison; Register of Prisoners; 1854-1856). --0--

OTHER JAILS: 22 May, 1856: Listed as prisoner #2689, he was admitted to Millbank gaol at Westminster in London. By the 1850s, Millbank and Pentonville were places for all male convicts to serve “their probationary term [of 9 months], after which they would be transported or sent to a public works prison” (https://www.prisonhistory.org). He served 1 month 3 days in separate confinement. TRIAL: 12 March, 1856: John Garraghty, a labourer, was sentenced at the Stafford Assizes to transportation for life for "wounding with intent to prevent the lawful detainer of a person" (UK, Prison Commission Records, 1770-1951; Millbank Prison; Register of Prisoners to 1885). Prior to and for just over 2 months following his trial, he was held at the Stafford County Gaol and House of Correction, also known as Stafford County Gaol, Stafford Prison and HMP Stafford. There, he spent 5 months 10 days in separate confinement. --0--
