1851, 20 November: Patrick Keefe was admitted to Dublin’s Newgate Prison from Spike Island; inmate #850; convicted at County Wexford for cattle stealing, sentenced to 7 years’ transportation on 22 January, 1849. Described as 17 years old, 4’9½” tall, brown eyes, sandy hair, fair complexion; single, literate; shoemaker; Roman Catholic; behaviour “excellent and very good”. He had three previous convictions – for larceny, breaking windows and begging (Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924 for Patrick Keefe; Dublin; Newgate; 1849-1858; image 37). --0--
