Ordered to be forwarded to the Female House of Correction. May 15 1830. Margaret Kelly, Catherine Flinn, Agnes Foley, indicted for assault, and forcibly and feloniously stealing quantity bills and notes, watch, a hat, great coat, and a pair of of shoes, the goods and property of Matthew Kennedy. Matthew Kennedy sworn—Deposed that had come from his home in the County Tipperary, for the purpose of selling quantity of timber: he had sold it, and that week he went to a watch makers in Thomas street, where his watch was repairing, that after getting it, visited two boys, friends of his, who took him to their lodging in Mercer street, it was then between six and seven o’clock enquired at the corner of Francis street, from a girl; saw the girl in the dock, Agnes Foley, who told him she would bring him a short cut ; she conducted him down a narrow entry, he advanced but a few paces down when he went to return back, upon which three women and two men rushed on him and proceeded to rob him; they took from him his pocket-book, which contained a bill for 501. another for 18l, 19s, 6d. some bank notes, they also took from him about 71, in silver, his watch, great coat, and hat; one of his shoes having come off in the struggle, they took the other from him and then run away; the men got off, but the three women made into a waste house, before which he stood guard during the entire of the night, with two stones in his hands, that shortly after they went in, his coat was thrust out of one of the broken windows ; that endeavouring to get the coat, one of the girls escaped out of another window, it was Agnes Foley. On being asked, could he swear positively to Agnes Foley, he said be could, he not only saw her in Francis-street, but he also saw her by the light of some straw they had set fire to before she escaped ; he laid there all the night in the morning brought the two girls that remained in the house, the watch-house ; here the prosecutor fully identified them both, but the man could not identify but the man could not identify. being asked did he ever get his money, he said, had told a Mr. Cullen, the Clerk the butter Factor, who went to the Bank, and stopped the notes ; understood that the man at the bar was taken up offering the 501, for payment, on Saturday, at the Bank, ...
