Convict Notes

Eleanor Holland had a relationship with Philip Connor who I believe is more likely to be the father of Elizabeth born 1813. My presumption is that Elizabeth was in her Mother's care when Eleanor began her relationship with Aaron which would appear to be after Rose's death in 1818.

John born 1815 died as an infant

DEATH OF ROSE KENNY Re statement made above "Rose must have died around 1818-1819 ..." A modicum of research effort outside the limited sources used above reveals quite clearly that Rose Kenny died in 1818, her age being recorded as 35 years on NSW BDM indexes [ 4016/1818 V18184016 2B]. She was buried on 21 April 1818, and this was recorded in the St Phillips Church Burial Register. [See as secondary source Sydney of City Index to Old Sydney Burial Ground]. There is a SON OF ROSE & AARON baptised in 1815, named JOHN. This may be the boy in November 1828 then called 'James" and said to be 12 years old; although clearly if baptised in 1815 he would have been turning 13 before the end of 1828. If Elizabeth was said to be 13 years in November 1828 she could only just have turned 13 at the Census since her mother only arrived in mid February 1813 and therefore must have conceived her with Aaron Pearce within the first month of arrival.

The only mention of Rose in the Musters would appear to be the 1814 Muster... [Ref 7067 page 159] Rose Kenny, Archduke Charles, Convict, Off Stores. (no children or partner mentioned) Rose formed a common law relationship with Aaron Pearce (Convict, 1811, "Admiral Gambier") around the 1813 period and they had 2 children; Elizabeth 1813 and James 1816. Rose must have died around 1818-1819 and in December 1819, Aaron made a petition to the Governor asking for help in looking after his two children whilst he was working as a sawyer. He subsequently formed a relationship with the housekeeper Eleanor Holland (Irish Convict, 1813, :Archduke Charles") who had been a shipmate of Rose. The two children are mentioned with Aaron and Eleanor in the 18128 Census. Pierce, Aaron, 41, conditional pardon, Admiral Gambier, 1811, life, Protestant, Government land, Hunters Hill. Pierce, Eleanor, 36, free by servitude, Archduke Charles, 1813, 7 years, Catholic. Pierce, Elizabeth, 15, born in the colony. Peirce, James, 12, born in the colony. and then their own children... Pierce, John, 9, born in the colony. Pierce, Jane, 9, born in the colony. Pierce, Mary Ann, 7, born in the colony. Pierce, Eliza, 5, born in the colony. Pierce, George, 3, born in the colony.
