While living at Weybridge she was tried w/1other for stealing from Thomas (Landon) at Warwick Lent Assizes on 27 3 1824, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW on 23 1 1825 after a voyage of 4months on GRENADA; she was 5' 3.25" fair complexion auburn hair grey eyes. 27 Mar 1824: Jane Woolley (aged 20) and Mary Lewis (aged 22) at Warwick Lent Assizes were sentenced to transportation for life for stealing from the person of Thomas Landon a promissory note for '10l. &c.' (10 pounds) [Birmingham Gazette 5 April 1824] 17 Dec 1827: Mary married William James (the son of Samuel James and Anne Bean) at St Johns Parramatta by Samuel Marsden. William James is 19 and Mary Lewis is 25 'Grenada', both of Parramatta, with consent of the Governor (as Mary is a convict), witnesses Robert & Ann Davis of Baulkham Hills In the 1828 census: she is Mary James (age 25 convict ship Grenada) with husband William James settler, born colony, age 20 at Baulkham Hills, live stock is one horned cattle Death 1829: She was buried 3 Jun 1829, Mary James abode Baulkham Hills age 28 'A clergyman did not attend the funeral being after the appointed[?] ...'
