Convict Notes
Thomas Lindley was 24 years old and came from Sheffield. He was transported for stealing coins and promisary notes from Mary Smith. His occupation was a "Cinderburner/Labourer". Thomas was assigned to Major M Barlow, Gundaroo area. 6/2/1840: COF 1834-1855 CSreLand. Thomas owned the Governor Burke Hotel at Yass. Thomas built the Rose Inn at South Gundagai, the first building to be constructed in the town. In 1852, the great flood came with a raging torrent in the night and his wife Hannah and his 4 children perished along with many others in the town. Thomas was away at the time. Thomas was also a wool grazier. He remarried to Elizabeth Elliott and had more children but only 1 survived. He was a prominant character in Gundagai. 1862: Thomas died.
