Robert Lowther is my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather. Baptised in Knottingley. Pontefract Yorkshire. He was illegitimate, mother was Catherine Lowther. She married a Riley Richardson in 1802. From these records it seems he may have be committed of the manslaughter of his stepfather.




Southern Reporter and Cork Commercial Courier Cork, Republic of Ireland 22 Mar 1838 MURDER MARCH 15.—CROWN SIDE. [Before Mr. Justice Coleridge.] CHARGE OF MURDER. Robert Lowther was indicted for the wilful murder of Rylah Richardson, at Ferrybridge, on the 12th Nov. last. The jury brought in a verdict, Guilty of Manslaughter. Rylah Richardson and Robert were both butchers in Ferry Bridge. Robert Lowther was possibly married to Mary Ambler and had 1 child, Mary. 23/3/1840: Convict Death Register: Robert died at the Sydney Hospital.
