NEWSPAPER REPORT OF TRIAL: 23 April, 1850: From the Inverness Advertiser and Ross-shire Chronicle, p5 “INVERNESS SPRING CIRCUIT… Angus Mackay, Lewis, was accused of acts of sheepstealing at different times between July 1849 and January 1850. The prisoner, a young lad, uneducated, and without a word of English, on the nature of the charge being explained to him by Sheriff Cameron, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to seven years' transportation." Angus was my great grandfather and came from the Isle of Lewis he continued to work as a farmer/shepherd/animal healer and married and raised 5 children . He is buried at Westbury Tasmania with his wife. He died at Golden Valley near Deloraine in 1924 aged 93
