The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... Ann Mackensie was convicted at Worchester, England on 18 Oct 1841 for stealing an umbrella. One previous offence. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Royal Admiral' arriving there 1842. Aged 49 yrs; widow; 2 children; Presbyterian; housemaid/needlewoman; 4'11 3/4" height; can read. Native place of birth: Edinburgh, Scotland Brother: John, at sea. Sisters: Janet, Ellen, Elizabeth & ...... (ref for above inf, as recorded upon arrival in Colony) APPLICATION FOR PERMISSION TO MARRY: 28 Feb 1844 - Ann Mackensie (per Royal Admiral) to Edward Broxham (free). ref. 52/1/2 pg 271 MARRIAGE: 2 April 1844 - Ann Mackensie, asst servant, aged 49yrs to Edward Broxham, free, aged 46 yrs at Parish Church of England, Longford, district of Launceston. (ref. 37/1/3 no. 847) DEATH: Ann Broxham (Mackensie) died at Longford, VDL on 3 Jan 1849. Spouse of Edward Broxham, labourer's wife, Carrick. Cause - cancer of the womb. (ref. 35/1/19 no. 163)
