SATURDAY, MAY 14, 1831 Arrived on Monday the 9th. instant the convict ship America, Robert Donald, Esq. Commander, from London 6th. January, with, 186 females. Passengers, Mr. Capon, Chief Constable of the Island, Mr. and Mrs. Davies, Surgeon and Superintendent, Dr. Thomson, R. N.; brings also some Commissariat stores. Mary MURPHY was convicted at Bristol 18 Oct 1830 for receiving stolen property (hats). 7yr transportation sentence. Denies being in prison before. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'America' 1831. Married woman - widow for 4 and half years. Aged 41 years; farm servant; 5'2 1/2"; sallow complexion; brown hair; dk grey eyes. 3 children. Native Place - Waterford, Ireland. Assigned to work services in the Colony of VDL. 16 Feb 1835: absent without leave. 1mths hard labour in the Female Factory and not to be returned to her previous service. Ticket of Leave granted. Conditional Pardon approved. Certificate of Freedom 12 Mar 1851 (or 1857).
