Ellen Beecroft (or Bearcroft) married Benjamin Madderah in York on Apr 23, 1839 in York. Nine days later she was arrested for stealing a bale of calico and received a sentence of 2 months with hard labour. A month after her release she was again arrested for stealing a shawl. This time she was sentence to 7 years and transportation. She was initially assigned to the Parramatta Female Factory. In October 1842 she gave birth to a daughter, Annie Adelaide Maddrah. She received her Ticket of Leave in January 1846 and her Certificate of Freedom in January 1847. She died in Bingara in 1883. She was using the name Orella (or Orcella) Steele and may have been married to Jacob Steele.
