Edward McCREARY was convicted at Kingston-Upon-Hull, Yorkshire, England on 29 June 1837 for stealing 20 yrs of ribbon. Gaol report: "connections respectful, but bad character" Prior convictions. 7 yr transportation sentence. Hulk report: "good". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship "Moffatt" arriving there 1 April 1838. Ship surgeon's report: "quiet & orderly". Married man, lived with Marianne Riley for 12 mths, she came to see him in gaol as they passed for husband and wife. Colony of VDL: Assigned to work service. Clear Conduct record.
