Family connections for Eleanor (McDonald) are: McDONALD Eleanor (McDonald) was born about 1769. She was tried for stealing a watch at Dublin Ireland, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 9 1791 after a voyage of 6.5months on QUEEN. She arrived on Norfolk Island on 23 4 1792 & left on 19 2 1796. She associated with Jonatham Griffiths) whom she later married, & produced 9children. She was Free by Servitude by 1798. She is recorded in 1825 with her husband at Richmond, although she apparantly travelled frequently with him on his business trips to Van Diemens Land. She married Jonatham Griffiths) in February 1796 at Hawkesbury (not shown in Smees records). She died on 28 2 1831 age62. [Some details taken from this Website] Jonatham Griffiths) son of Thomas (Griffiths) & Sarah (Withers) was born on 14 3 1773 at Stone Gloucestershire. He was tried for stealing clothes at Gloucester Assizes Gloucestershire on 16 7 1788, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 26 6 1790 after a voyage of 7months on SCARBOROUGH. He arrived on Norfolk Island on 7 8 1790 & left Norfolk Island on 21 9 1795. He was Free by Servitude by 1797. He built & owned boats very successfully. He moved to Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) in 1790s. In 1819 a future son in law convict Robert (Potts) was assigned to him at Richmond. He moved to Launceston in 1820s. He possessed homes both at Richmond NSW & Launceston between which he frequently moved as a trader with his family, & warehouses. He is recorded in 1825 with his wife at Richmond. He was recorded as a farmer in 1826. He became a bridge builder on Tasmanias North Coast. He died on 1 11 1839 age66 at Port Fairy richest man in Tasmania; more information is on the net, where we are told he married a second time. Eleanor married Jonathan Griffiths (Convict, Scarborough, 1790). They married at Hawkesbury February 1796. In the next 16 years they had a family of 9 children. Johnathan did very well at a number of businesses and eventually had a home in both Launceston, Van Diemens Land and Richmond, New South Wales. Eleanor and Jonathan moved back and forth between the two properties. Jonathan became the richest man in Tasmania before he died.
