The First Fleet consisted of two Royal Navy escort ships, HMS Sirius and HMS Supply accompanied by six convict transports, the Alexander, Charlotte, Friendship, Lady Penrhyn, Prince of Wales and the Scarborough, and three store ships, the Borrowdale, Fishburn and Golden Grove. Evoy Mc Elinor. Alexander 1816, Kangaroo 1816. Tried at Dublin 1815, 7 years. Aug 6 1823. F.S. D & Disy. Fined 5/-. Oct 30 1827, F.S. Bound over to keep the peace towards Eliza James for 3 months. July 5 1818, F.S. Felony, receiving well knowing them to be stolen by Eleanor Donnelly one gold watch key v. £2, a gold onyx mounted ring v £7 & a gold mounted diamond ring v £2 10., the property of Wm. Elliott. Commd. For trial. (more details on her record) July 4 1837, T.L. Admitting to her house 3 runaways who had been apprehended in the neighbourhood, - severely repd & recommd that her present application for a conditional Pardon be not at present entertained. Donnelly, charged with three offences: — 1st. Stealing a quantity of property in the dwelling house of Wm. Elliott. 2nd. Stealing in the dwelling house of John Curran a quantity of jewellery the property of John Curran. 3rd. Breaking and entering the dwelling house of the said John Curran in the day time and stealing therein, a quantity of property. Eleanor McEvoy the mother, charged with receiving the same well knowing it to have been stolen. Hobart Town Courier, 12 July 1828. Eleanor Donnelly was convicted of stealing a pair of ear-rings. The jury recommended her to mercy on account of her extreme youth. Eleanor McEvoy her mother was found guilty of receiving the ear-rings knowing them to be stolen. On Thursday the prisoners who had been tried and convicted during the session were brought up before the Court. Eleanor Donnelly was sentenced to 7 years transportation, and Eleanor McEvoy to 14 years. The Hobart Town Courier, 19 July 1828. -------------------------------------------------- Eleanor Donnelly was free when she was sent to trial. Her Tasmanian Conduct record states she arrived per Kangaroo. She would have accompanied her mother who came as a convict. Tasmanian Conduct Record. Charged on strong suspicion of having stolen a one pound note from her mistress’s drawers. Discharge as to the felony, but ordered to be confined in the C Class female house of Correction for 12 months, subject to the approbation of His Excellency, The Lieut. Govr. June 15 1829. Violent suspicion of stealing a pair of gloves & other articles the propty. of her master – 3 months C. Class House of Correction.
