Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. Marion MacMillan was convicted at Glasgow on 15 Sept 1842 for theft. 7yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Margaret' 1843. Assignments in the Colony. 7 Mar 1844: Absent without leave and in a public house. 6 days solitary confinement. 3 May 1844: 2nd Class prisoner 1 Oct 1844: 3rd Class prisoner 13 April 1847: Ticket of Leave 14 Nov 1848: Conditional Pardon 16 Nov 1849: Free Certificate Marriage: Application for permission to marry - 28 Feb 1844 - to William HAIR (transported per ‘Canton’. Approved. Married 10 April 1844 at Hobart. (ref. 37/1/3 no. 1181). William, aged 38 yrs, Constable. Marion aged 23yrs, Spinster. William HAIR died in 1853. Marion remarried 27 Jan 1862, to Martin MARSH at Kingston Beach (south of Hobart). Marion, aged 41yrs, widow. Martin, aged 43yrs, labourer.
